Paludarium Design

Description

I used to have a lovely aquarium, but I haven't had one for years. The last little while, I got the itch to do one again, and decided that what I would REALLY like to do is a paludarium, kind of half aquarium half terrarium. I have been obsessively researching, figuring out EXACTLY what I want, and settled on a large unheated tank simulating a sort of mossy pond bank with a tree stump. Then I got to sketching my idea earlier tonight. It was supposed to just be a quick sketch to figure out the layout, but I MAY have gotten a little carried away....

But yeah, this is basically what I want. I intend on doing the Walstad Method, which basically means a ton of plants and a dirt layer under the gravel to encourage plant growth, which in turn will help keep the water clean. The plants I am absolutely certain of are a tiger lotus, a couple java ferns, anubias and pennywort, but probably some others as well. I don't know a lot about emergent pond plants, so will have to research that, but want something reedy/grassy, and the land part will be several types of moss with some ferns and other small plants, whatever tickles my fancy at the garden center. The inhabitants, I am leaning towards a school or White Cloud Mountain Minnows, a Hillstream Loach, maaaaaaybe couple Madagascar Rainbowfish (i am getting conflicting info on what temperatures they like), and finally some fancy guppies and a bunch of Cherry Shrimp, who i am hoping will get to breeding, and their babies will provide some live food for the other inhabitants. On land, I want a few Marbled Newts. Exact numbers of all inhabitants dependent on how much water the thing will hold. It will be gorgeous. I don't know if it will happen, (the only way i can afford a tank large enough is to BUILD it which is a little daunting) but in my head, i love it.
